Vintage Pioneer H-R99 8-Track Player / Recorder - Tested - Read Description

This listing is for a Vintage Pioneer H-R99 8-Track Player / Recorder that comes with a copy of the Instruction Manual. Tape not included.
Results from testing:
* Unit plays and records.
* All lamps work.
* The tape counter DOES NOT function.
* Faint cross-talk is sometimes noticeable when programs change.
* The Pause feature works properly.
* The "Function" switch performs as designed, i.e., the tape transport stops and the red indicator lamp comes on at the end of program(s) when set to "One" or "All" and when set to "Endless" you'll hear the same tape over and over.
* The VU Meters light and function per the H-R99's design. (Unlike the H-R100, they function while in Record mode only)
* The programs advance both automatically and manually.
* Fast Forward works.
* Recording Level Controls and the ALC (Automatic Line Control) option function.
* This deck displays nicely and the often missing bezel around the tape door is present.
* At one time the metal top cover was resprayed and the side panels recovered in Pioneer-esque faux wood.
Recommendations:
* I swabbed the head with isopropyl alcohol before inserting a tape, but it would be a good idea to have the unit thoroughly cleaned and serviced as it's likely still sporting the original belts. The side panels could remain as-is, or be re-veneered. They could also be replaced with solid wood.
As previously mentioned; the tape counter does not function.
